Self-Feeding with Utensils: Is It Important?

If you're raising your first child, self-feeding might be a new concept for you. Like most new things, our tendencies as parents are to to shy away from something until we can research it or perhaps even until the doctor suggests it. Perhaps you're on your second or third child and your life is so hectic you don't have time to let your youngest child make a mess with their food.

No matter what category you find yourself in, we would like to encourage you to let your child (children) self-feed whenever possible.

Our kids love to feed themselves. Even our littlest 4 month old enjoys trying to hold his bottle and our 18 month old (pictured) loves to feed himself using a spoon. With the help of his patient teacher we know he'll be using his fork very soon.
